Terms of Use
Effective 7 October 2026
These terms cover your use of Ladders, the iPhone app and the web app. By using Ladders you agree to them. They are written to be read, so they are short.
Who we are
Ladders is provided by James Leggatt, an individual (sole trader) in the United Kingdom. “We” and “us” in these terms mean James Leggatt. You can reach us at hello@laddersapp.co.uk.
What Ladders does
Ladders is a budgeting app. You set up a budget with your income and the date it has to last until, and Ladders gives you an amount to spend each day. What you don't spend goes into your pot, and you can save towards goals if you want to.
Ladders is available as an iPhone app and as a web app. It never connects to your bank and never holds or moves your money: everything in it is what you enter yourself.
Not financial advice
Ladders is a tool for keeping track of your own spending. It is not financial advice, and nothing in the app or on this website is a recommendation about what you should do with your money. Decisions about your money are yours.
Your account
You sign in with a link sent to your email address. There are no passwords, so anyone who can open your email can sign in to your account. Keep your email account secure, and let us know if you think someone else has signed in.
You must be 16 or over to use Ladders.
Subscriptions in the iPhone app
In the iPhone app, your first 2 budgets are free. After that, you can subscribe to keep setting up budgets:
- Ladders, £1.99 a month: keep setting up budgets.
- Ladders Plus, £2.99 a month: everything in Ladders, plus spending categories and a total for each category in History.
The price shown in the App Store, in your own currency, is the price that applies. Payment is taken from your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase.
Subscriptions renew automatically each month until you cancel. To avoid being charged for the next month, cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store account settings.
Deleting your Ladders account does not cancel your App Store subscription. Cancel it in your App Store account settings as well.
Refunds
Payments are handled by Apple, so we can't issue refunds ourselves. To ask for a refund, go to reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple decides refund requests under its own policies.
Apple's terms
If you use the iPhone app, Apple's Standard End User Licence Agreement also applies, alongside these terms.
Using Ladders fairly
Please don't:
- try to get into anyone else's account;
- try to break, overload or get around the limits of Ladders or the servers it runs on;
- use Ladders for anything unlawful.
If you do, we may suspend or close your account.
Your data
What you enter in Ladders is yours. Our Privacy Policy explains what we store, why, and the rights you have over it.
Deleting your account
You can stop using Ladders at any time. To delete your account, go to Settings → Delete account in the app. This deletes all your data straight away and can't be undone. It does not cancel an App Store subscription.
Our responsibility to you
We work to keep Ladders accurate and available, but we provide it as it is and can't promise it will always be free of errors or interruptions. We aren't responsible for decisions you make about your money based on what Ladders shows you.
Nothing in these terms limits any responsibility that the law doesn't allow us to limit, or takes away your legal rights as a consumer.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Ladders changes. When we do, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. If you keep using Ladders after a change, the updated terms apply.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
